Darwin Head, a 35-year-old sawmill worker and father of three from Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, won the $1M grand prize on Wednesday in the Malibu Million Dollar Shootout. To claim the paycheck, Head scored 15 goals from the far blue line in 24 seconds during the first intermission of the Canucks-Avalanche game at General Motors Place, as reported by Yahoo.com.

One day after recording his 20th career hat trick, the Ducks' Teemu Selanne on Monday was named the NHL?s ?First Star of the Week," as reported by Yahoo.com. Also honored were goaltenders Miikka Kiprusoff of the Flames and Martin Brodeur of the Devils. Selanne tallied seven points in a 3-0-0 week for the Ducks, including a five-point game in Sunday?s win over the Blackhawks.

Teemu Selanne set the franchise mark for points on Sunday with 670 during the Anaheim Ducks' 4-2 win over the Calgary Flames, according to the Associated Press. Selanne set the record in just his seventh game back on the ice. He sat out the first half of the season while contemplating retirement.

Stephane Robidas scored twice in the second period, and goalie Marty Turco recorded his 200th career victory Friday night in the Stars' 4-2 victory over the Ducks, according to an Associated Press report. Turco made 20 saves to earn his milestone victory.

Coyotes' Mueller Named NHL Rookie Of The Month

The National Hockey League announced today that Phoenix Coyotes' forward Peter Mueller has been named NHL Rookie of the Month for January. Mueller led all rookies in scoring for the month with 6-8-14 in 14 games as the Coyotes surged to a 9-4-1 record in January. Mueller, 19, recorded points in nine of 14 games during the month, including a seven-game point streak from Jan. 10- Jan. 21 (4-7-11). He tallied a career-high three assists in a 5-3 victory against San Jose on Jan. 15 and notched two goals, including his third game-winner of the season, in a 4-2 win at Columbus on Jan. 29. For the season, Mueller ranks T-4th on the Coyotes in scoring with 15-18-33. Among all NHL rookies, he ranks T-1st in goals (15), 3rd in points (33) and 5th in assists. Mueller, who was drafted by Phoenix with the eighth overall selection in the 2006 Entry Draft, registered 21-57-78 in 51 games for Everett of the Western Hockey League last season and captured WHL Rookie of the Year honors in 2005-06. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound native of Bloomington, Minnesota, represented the United States at the IIHF World Junior Championships in 2006 and 2007. Mueller joins previous 2007-08 Rookie of the Month winners, Chicago Blackhawks' right wing Patrick Kane (October), Atlanta Thrashers' defenseman Tobias Enstrom (November), and Washington Capitals' center Nicklas Backstrom (December).

After leading the league in scoring this past week, Red Wings center Pavel Datsyuk was named the NHL's "First Star of the Week" on Monday, as reported by Yahoo.com. Also honored were Stars goaltender Marty Turco and Rangers center Chris Drury. Datsyuk scored seven points - one goal and six assists - to help the Red Wings post three consecutive victories and extend their lead in the league's overall standings to 16 points.
